The Cheshire Make Up Academy

FAQ

All you need to know...!

Do I need any qualifications or previous experience in make-up to enrol?

For the majority of our courses you do not need to have qualifications or experience in make-up. However, for the TV & Film make-up Course, we do require students to have either completed our 1 Week Fashion/Editorial make-up Course or have evidence of previous training and/or experience.

How old do I need to be to enrol on a course?

Students need to be 18 years or over at the time of enrolment.

What qualifications will I receive on successful completion of my course?

You will receive an Academy Certificate.

Does the Academy have any accreditation?

Make-up is a creative profession, unlike beauty therapy which involves special training in the use of chemicals and the anatomy, which can be dangerous and where accreditation is valid.
Therefore, as with other creative schools accreditation is not needed and you would still be able to get insurance. It is far more important that you have been taught to a high standard by tutors still working in the make-up industry. Photographers and other industry professionals will give you work based on your portfolio, show reel and CV.

How do I enrol on a course?

Contact the Academy for a list of available course dates. Once you have decided on a suitable date, return to the 'Bookings' page and complete the booking form. Details of how you can pay your fees can also be found on this page.

Do I have to bring my own make-up and brushes?

No. The Academy provides everything you will need during your training.

Do your Research

Choosing the right make-up school.
There are many things to consider when researching make-up schools.

  • Make sure the tutors are still working in the industry. You will only get the most up to date training if your tutors are still actively working.
  • Beware of schools promising success – no school can guarantee this! The industry is tough and students need to be determined and focused in order to succeed.
  • In this industry a qualification or accreditation will not ensure you get work. Make-up artists are hired for jobs on the quality of their portfolio or show reel (TV & film).
  • Make sure the school you choose works with a large selection of professional/top brand make-up and be wary of choosing a course because a kit is included – in some cases the make-up is inferior in brand. Ask for a kit content list.
